Artful Intersections Outreach Party

It’s so much fun working with the West Lancaster Jewels! We’ve been collaborating with them, including artist Justin Jones, since last fall to develop a community-based mural on the intersection of Crystal & First Streets. Last Saturday we helped to throw an outreach event to spread the word about the mural to neighbors of the intersection that have not yet been in-the-know about the project. Neighbors were encouraged to make their own chalk murals in the street, color in printouts of the mural design and enjoy sandwiches provided by Jimmy Johns on Queen Street.

The artwork will serve as a reflection of the life and culture of the neighborhood; is expected to expand the perceived public space to encompass the street; increase awareness and safety of alternative forms of transportation; and boost community development. The project is part of an initiative called Artful Intersections, which aims to help community groups create street murals in their neighborhoods.

On June 29th all neighbors are invited to help Justin paint the mural at the annual West Lancaster Jewels block party.
